Extreme weather forces cancellation of Australian Grand Prix races
Extreme weather and poor visibility affecting medical helicopter operations led to the cancellation of all three Grand Prix races at Phillip Island on Sunday. After hours of delays and the cancellation of the Moto3 and Moto2 races, the MotoGP race was also called off shortly before its scheduled start.

Severe weather conditions at Phillip Island disrupted the final day of the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, ultimately forcing the cancellation of all three races across the Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP categories. Poor visibility, which affected medical helicopter operations, meant that the necessary safety conditions for racing could not be guaranteed.

The day's schedule was repeatedly delayed from the morning onwards as Race Direction monitored the changing weather conditions. At around 14:00 local time, the Moto3 and Moto2 races were cancelled, with hopes of still running the MotoGP race at 16:30. However, at 15:15, the final decision was confirmed: the premier-class race would also not take place.

Despite the disappointment, Race Direction allowed all MotoGP riders to complete an honour lap of the iconic Phillip Island circuit, giving them the opportunity to salute the venue and thank the thousands of fans who had braved the rain and waited patiently throughout the day. It was also an emotional farewell for Jack Miller in his last outing at this iconic venue on a MotoGP bike.

For Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP, the weekend therefore ended without the opportunity to contest the final race at Phillip Island before MotoGP moves to Adelaide in 2027. The team would like to thank all the fans who remained trackside in such difficult conditions for their patience and support.

Of course, it’s a shame for Jack and the whole team that we couldn’t take part in the race. This was a particularly important occasion for Jack, as it was his final MotoGP Grand Prix at Phillip Island. At least he was able to race in the Sprint, where he delivered his best performance of the season, scored points and put Yamaha inside the top ten. He’ll take that memory away with him, and it’s one he truly deserves.

He could probably have achieved even more today, but these are the circumstances we have to accept. The riders’ safety must always come first, and I believe Race Direction made the right decision.

Obviously, it’s not the way I wanted to end my home Grand Prix after such a strong weekend. The weather was disappointing, to say the least. But I want to say a massive thank you to all the fans who came out, stood in the rain all day and supported us, only for there to be no racing. You guys are number one, and your support means a lot to me.

It’s a shame that we couldn’t race today, because I think we had a chance to do a good job in the wet. It would also have been important for me personally, as I need every lap I can get to return to the MotoGP level as quickly as possible. And of course, it’s disappointing for the fans who waited for so long in difficult conditions.

Now we’re already looking ahead to Malaysia, where we’ll have another opportunity to keep improving. It’s a track I already know, so I’m looking forward to getting back on the bike and continuing to build my race rhythm.
