Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Makes a Step Forward on Saturday at Misano

Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu made a step forward on Saturday at Misano, finding a better feeling and improved pace after a difficult opening day. Both riders continued to work on the revised setup during the Sprint, with Razgatlıoğlu crossing the line 17th and Miller 18th before a post-race penalty for the Turkish rider reversed their final classification.

Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP made a positive step forward on Saturday at the San Marino Grand Prix, with both Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu finding a significantly better feeling with the YZR-M1 after the difficulties encountered on Friday. Following further work and setup changes overnight, the riders were able to improve their pace and gain a clearer understanding of the direction needed for the remainder of the weekend.

Although neither rider was able to progress through to Q2, the improved feeling provided a more encouraging platform for the Sprint. Miller and Razgatlıoğlu battled each other throughout all 13 laps, with Razgatlıoğlu crossing the line in 17th and Miller in 18th. A post-race penalty subsequently moved Razgatlıoğlu to 18th in the official classification, leaving Miller in 17th.

More importantly, both riders were able to continue evaluating the changes made to the bike and gather further information for Sunday. The team will now continue working on the setup this evening, with both riders having identified further areas where they can improve. The longer Grand Prix distance on Sunday will provide another opportunity to put the progress made today into practice, with tyre management and race pace expected to play an important role.

It’s clear that the weekend in Misano didn’t start in the best possible way. We struggled on Friday and again in qualifying today, but I have to say that our race pace was slightly better than we expected, which gives us some encouragement for tomorrow.

Starting from so far back, of course, we cannot expect anything extraordinary, but we have seen that the bike is performing slightly better with the medium tyre than with the soft. Today’s Sprint was useful in that respect, and I believe the information we gathered with the medium will be particularly valuable for tomorrow’s long race.

We already know what we need to work on and which direction we want to take. Even Fabio’s pace before his crash showed that the bike is capable of achieving a much better result and that we can fight for positions around the Top 10.

So, I’m encouraged for tomorrow. I’m not expecting any big results, especially given where we are starting from, but I do believe we can make a clear step forward compared with the difficult Friday and Saturday we have had so far.

Difficult day today, but definitely better than yesterday. We made some headway with a lot of changes overnight, and then we made some more changes before qualifying and after qualifying. The bike was a little different again for the Sprint, and we’re slowly getting there. We’ll make another change tonight and try to chase that feeling a little bit more.

We’re trying to create the load we need and get the weight transfer working better under braking. We’ve found a way to move the headstock back a little bit, which we haven’t actually been able to do all year because we were touching the radiator. The boys have made some changes to allow us to do that, so hopefully it can help us find a bit more of what we’re looking for.

The bike is definitely better than it was yesterday, but we’re still not where we need to be. I opted for the medium tyre today because, honestly, the difference between the medium and the soft for us isn’t very big. We’ve got a few ideas after today and we’ll try something different again tomorrow. The longer race gives us another opportunity to understand the bike and hopefully keep moving forward.

I think today was definitely better than qualifying. In the Sprint I was able to do a much better lap time than I did in qualifying, and I felt much more comfortable on the bike. With the medium tyre, the bike is stopping much better and I can ride it more under control, which is very important for me. With the soft, it was impossible to ride in the same way because the bike was not stopping and I was losing the line.

We still have some corners where we need to improve. In some places the bike is working quite well, but in others we are losing a lot, so we have another chance tomorrow morning to try a different setup. If we can make another step there, I think we can have a much better pace for the long race.

For me, the qualifying was very bad, but I kept fighting in the Sprint and I think the pace was a little better than qualifying. Tomorrow is more important because it is a long race and everyone needs to manage the tyres. I hope we can find something tomorrow morning that gives me a better feeling and allows us to make another step forward.
