Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Leaves Silverstone Determined to Close the Gap

A challenging weekend at Silverstone sees Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP take valuable points but fall short of the performance expected. With tyre management and race-long grip identified as key areas to improve, the team now looks ahead to Aragón with renewed focus.

Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP leaves Silverstone with a sense of frustration after a weekend in which the team had expected to be more competitive. Jack Miller finished 13th after showing strong pace in qualifying, while Toprak Razgatlıoğlu crossed the line in 15th. Both riders struggled to maintain the same level of performance over the full race distance, with tyre degradation becoming a significant factor in the second half of the race.

Team Director Gino Borsoi acknowledged that the gap to the front was larger than expected, while highlighting the need to improve grip and race-long performance. Despite the difficult weekend, the team remains focused on understanding the issues and continuing the development of the YZR-M1.

For Miller, the race underlined the current limitations when fighting at the front, with the additional effort required to stay with the group having an impact on tyre performance later in the race. Razgatlıoğlu, meanwhile, used the weekend as an opportunity to gain experience at a circuit that requires a different riding style, taking valuable lessons from his first MotoGP race at Silverstone.

With another two weeks before Aragón, the team will use the break to analyse the data and continue working on the areas identified at Silverstone. The objective remains clear: to make another step forward and progressively close the gap to the leading group.

It’s clear that this was not one of our best weekends. We scored some points, which is always important for the team, but the gap to the front is obviously not where we want to be. It was a difficult weekend overall, apart from Jack Miller, who set a great lap time and did a very good job to go directly into Q2.

Unfortunately, we were not able to achieve the result we probably deserved, mainly due to the tyre degradation we experienced. We need to work on improving the grip and make sure we can be more competitive throughout the entire race, rather than only in the opening laps or over a single lap.

I’m sorry for Toprak because he has been struggling more than usual recently. We had managed to find a good direction a couple of races ago, but we have found ourselves in difficulty again. We are working on it and we are very motivated to help him. He also continues to remain positive, and I’m convinced that soon we will be back where he was able to put us a few races ago.

I gave everything I had today, and unfortunately everything I had was enough for 13th position. Fabio and I were riding together for most of the race, and I think that shows the level we’re at right now. We tried to fight with the other guys, but you can only do that for a certain amount of time. At a certain point, the extra risk you have to take, whether it’s braking harder or pushing more in the corners, starts to have an effect towards the second half of the race. That’s something we need to work on.

The track was a little bit more slippery today, whether because of the temperature or the Moto2 race, and with everyone running the medium rear tyre, it was a long and difficult race. Even though we were all managing the tyres carefully, the drop was still significant, especially over the final seven laps.

The Aprilias seemed to manage the tyres very well again today. We’ve seen them do that across different classes and different circuits, and especially this year they seem to have the whole package working very well when it comes to tyre conservation and management.

Now we have another two weeks off, so we’ll use that time to work on improving a little bit more and come back stronger for the next race.

The fight with Pol was difficult, especially because I finished behind him! I made a couple of mistakes towards the end and lost some time, while his bike was very fast on the straights. I tried to pass him, but it was difficult, so we finished very close. Overall, it was a difficult race with the tyre management, although I felt better than yesterday.

I learned a lot this weekend because this track is very different from my usual riding style. There are many long corners where you need to wait, pick up the bike and manage the acceleration, so I’m still learning how to adapt my riding to the MotoGP bike and these tyres. I’m also learning a lot about the engine braking and how to manage the bike.

We finished 15th, so it was not a good result for me, but I’m focusing on what I learned because it will be important when we come back here next year. I’m trying to stay positive and now we go to Aragón, where I hope we can improve and get closer to the other Yamaha riders.

My target for the season remains the same: to finish in the top ten. It won’t be easy, but I’ll keep giving my best and trying to achieve the best possible results in the remaining races.
