Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP faces a difficult start to the Austrian GP
Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP endured a challenging opening day at the Red Bull Ring, with Jack Miller showing encouraging pace in the morning before struggling to find the right setup for the afternoon time attack, while Toprak Razgatlıoğlu continued his adaptation to the Spielberg circuit. Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP faced a difficult opening day at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg as the Austrian Grand Prix got underway. Jack Miller showed promising signs during the morning session, finding a good feeling with the YZR-M1 and setting a competitive pace, but the situation became more complicated in the afternoon when the focus shifted to the time attack. After posting a couple of strong laps early in the session, the setup choices made for the final part did not deliver the expected improvement, leaving the Australian down the order when the lap times came together.

For Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, Friday was once again largely focused on gaining experience and understanding a new circuit with the MotoGP bike. The reigning WorldSBK Champion and MotoGP rookie continued to work on adapting his riding and the YZR-M1 to the characteristics of the Red Bull Ring, but the time spent learning the track was reflected in his final position.

The result means both Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP riders will have to go through Q1 tomorrow morning, with the immediate objective of making the step into Q2 and securing the best possible starting positions for Sunday’s race.

Pretty tricky Friday. We tried a few different things and the back-to-back comparison gave us a much clearer idea of the direction we want to take for tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to put a proper lap together with the new tyres, so the final position doesn’t really show where we are. But we’ve got a much clearer idea now of what we need to do with the bike, and I think we can make another step tomorrow.

We’ve got some work to do, especially to improve the way the bike behaves in the slower corners, but we have a good base to work from. It’s basically a direction we know from the last few races, so we’ll make some changes tonight and see what we can do tomorrow.

I’m happy because we made a big step during the day. This morning was difficult because I didn’t have a good feeling with the bike, but in the afternoon I improved a lot and I feel much better now, especially under braking.

We are still comparing the data with Fabio and I can see some areas where I can improve, especially with the way I pick up the bike and accelerate out of the corners. The tyre here also feels quite different, so it takes some time to understand it and find the grip.

Overall, I feel much more confident than this morning. We made a good step, but we still need to improve the corner exit and find a little more pace tomorrow.
