Miller secures direct Q2 spot as Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP makes strong start at Balaton
Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP enjoyed an encouraging start to the Hungarian Grand Prix at Balaton Park, with Jack Miller securing direct access to Q2 and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu narrowly missing out after spending most of the day among the top ten. The characteristics of the circuit and the recent progress of the Yamaha YZR-M1 combined to deliver one of the team's strongest Fridays of the season.

Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP made an impressive start to the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend at Balaton Park Circuit, confirming the positive signs shown in recent races and taking full advantage of a layout that appears well suited to the strengths of the Yamaha YZR-M1.

Throughout both practice sessions, Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu consistently featured inside or around the top ten, demonstrating strong pace on a circuit where agility, braking stability and cornering performance play a crucial role. The technical nature of the Hungarian venue allowed the progress made in recent months on chassis performance and electronics to translate into competitive lap times from the very beginning of the weekend.

Miller completed a solid Friday by securing tenth position in the combined classification, earning direct access to Q2 and putting himself in a strong position ahead of Saturday's qualifying session.

Razgatlıoğlu was equally competitive throughout the day and spent much of both sessions among the fastest riders on track. The Turkish rider ultimately missed a direct place in Q2 by just 0.165 seconds, a result that does not fully reflect the competitiveness he displayed across the day.

With both riders showing encouraging pace and the overall package performing well on the Balaton layout, Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP heads into Saturday's qualifying sessions and Sprint race confident of continuing the positive progression demonstrated so far this weekend.

I’m obviously very happy to have secured direct access to Q2 today. On a tight and technical circuit like this, it’s important to put yourself in the right position early in the weekend, so it was nice to get the job done on Friday.

I had a really good feeling with the bike this morning, but when we switched to the second bike I struggled a lot more. Fortunately, the team did a great job and we were able to solve most of those issues during the afternoon.

From there the feeling improved steadily. The pace was strong on used tyres and even better once we fitted fresh rubber. By the time we reached the final time attacks, I felt comfortable and competitive.

This is a circuit where it’s very difficult to put together a perfect lap. With the narrow racing line and the chicanes, it’s easy to make a small mistake and leave time on the table. I think there is still a little bit more available for us tomorrow, so we’ll see what we can do in qualifying and the Sprint.

Overall, it was a positive first day. This is a track that suits my riding style and I felt comfortable from the beginning, which allowed me to be competitive throughout the sessions.

There are still some areas where we need to improve, especially in the first sector. The grip level there felt quite low and, when I switched to the soft tyre, I experienced more rear-wheel push, which affected both turning and stopping performance.

The positive aspect is that the improvements we introduced recently, particularly with the engine-brake settings, are working here as well. The feeling is much better than it was in Mugello and we started the weekend from a stronger base. There are still a few corners where I’m not completely satisfied, but the issues are now much more limited and easier to address.

Tomorrow the goal is clear: make another step forward and fight our way into Q2. The potential is there, and if we can improve a few details, I believe we can be even more competitive.
