Friday at Mugello delivered another encouraging step forward for Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP on a circuit expected to be one of the most demanding of the season for the evolving Yamaha YZR-M1 package.

The iconic Tuscan track, part of the MotoGP calendar since 1991 and famous for its ultra-fast 1.1-kilometre main straight, traditionally rewards outright engine performance. Despite this, Yamaha riders remained competitive throughout the day, with Álex Rins finishing just three tenths from the top and both Jack Miller and Fabio Quartararo within eight tenths of the fastest time.

Jack Miller narrowly missed direct access to Q2 after a disrupted Practice session interrupted twice by red flags at crucial moments during the time attack. Even so, the Australian ended the day with positive feelings about the bike’s pace and balance, confirming the progress already shown during the Barcelona test.

For Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, meanwhile, the day represented another important learning step at one of the most technical and demanding circuits on the calendar in his first Mugello weekend aboard a MotoGP machine. The Turkish rider continued improving throughout the sessions, particularly in understanding the bike’s corner-speed demands and overall behaviour around the fast-flowing Italian circuit.

The day once again reinforced the clear progress Yamaha has made on the chassis and electronics side of the project, areas that continue to allow the riders to remain competitive even at a circuit where engine performance plays such a decisive role.

It was a positive first day overall. We were not too far away from Q2, although at the same time just far enough to miss out. Still, the pace was not bad and the bike is working really well.

We made a good step forward in Barcelona and we’ve carried that feeling into Mugello. Obviously there is one area of the track where we still cannot change too much, so we are trying to maximise what we can with the slipstream and the rest of the package.

I also left a little bit of time on the track today, so I’m positive that if we can improve a bit more tomorrow, we can fight our way through Q1 and put ourselves in a stronger position for the weekend.

Today I tried my best, but we are still losing a lot in terms of corner speed. Even so, when I followed Jack during the session I was able to improve my lap time quite a lot and understand a few areas better.

For tomorrow we still need another step. If we can improve by almost one second, that would be perfect for me. I think a low 1’45 lap would already be a very good result considering my experience here with the MotoGP bike.

We will see tomorrow. I will keep pushing and try to improve in every session.
