Under sunny skies at Le Mans, Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP completed a demanding opening day of practice for the French Grand Prix, with both Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu continuing the development work on the Yamaha YZR-M1 while trying to secure direct access to Q2.

Despite encouraging moments throughout the two sessions — particularly with some competitive lap times posted by Miller — the team was ultimately unable to convert the pace into stronger finishing positions by the end of the day. Miller closed Friday in 15th place, while Razgatlıoğlu finished 20th as both riders missed the opportunity to move further up the standings.

Track action resumes on Saturday with FP2 at 10:10 AM local time, immediately followed by Q1 and Q2. With weather forecasts suggesting rain for the remainder of the weekend, tomorrow could represent the final opportunity to work in stable dry conditions before the Sprint Race later in the afternoon.

It was a decent first day here in Le Mans. The bike is becoming more competitive and, personally, I’m feeling more competitive as well. Some of the things we tested in Jerez have brought positive improvements and we’re starting to see the benefits of that work.

It’s still a step-by-step process and we know there’s a long way to go, but we’re only around half a second from the front and just outside Q2. Looking at the lap that Rins managed today, it’s clear that the potential is there.

We’re struggling a little bit on the front straight, but the acceleration itself doesn’t feel too bad. The main area we still need to improve is the engine character and staying consistently within the grip window. At the moment it feels like I can’t fully extract the maximum from the rear tyre in certain corners because of the balance between grip and the amount of torque we’re putting down.

Today’s position is my fault. It’s not easy because I’m still trying to fully understand the track, but at the same time I was surprised by how close everybody is here — almost everyone is doing very similar lap times.

Today I was finally able to see some low 1’31s, but my target is to get into the 1’30s tomorrow. I’m still learning the circuit while also trying to ride at the limit, so step by step I need to improve in every area.

Alex did a really good job today with the Yamaha, and Jack was also very strong, so I need to keep my head down and continue working. As for the track itself, I’m really happy to finally ride at this legendary circuit, although I have to admit I still don’t fully understand the first corner yet.

One positive thing is that today I wasn’t riding with my Superbike style anymore. I followed Ogura for a while and focused on understanding the MotoGP lines and corner entry. In some corners we were quite similar, but when opening the throttle he had a clear advantage in acceleration compared to me.

I’m still trying to understand which lines work best here, but tomorrow I need another step because I want to see a 1’30 lap time.
